Bio
Melle Nieling is a Dutch contemporary artist. Their work ranges from large physical installations integrating video to single-page websites. They often mimic corporate entities, established frameworks, and everyday objects in order to disarm their loaded symbolism. Through their research, they explore the processes behind the attribution of value and identity. By creating environments where binaries are confused, Melle deliberately opens up debates on societal norms and accepted views.
As co-founder of Plicnik Collective, Melle collaboratively creates and curates physical and online shows. They live and work between London, United Kingdom and the Netherlands.
Melle Nieling’s work has been shown internationally, including in the United Kingdom (Cromwell Place, Standard Studios, Generation & Display), the Netherlands (Villa de Bank, Garage Rotterdam, Art Rotterdam), Germany (a&o Kunsthalle), Denmark (inter.pblc), and the United States of America (Montez Press Radio, 18th Street Art Center). In 2022 they were awarded a Mondriaan Fonds stipend for emerging artists.
